Self Isolation Reviews: Cats (1998)

Well, last night I watched Cats (1998) for the first time. It was interesting. Over the next twelve weeks I have to be in self isolation as I am considered high risk of getting a severe illness due to COVID-19 so I’m watching every DVD and every film on all my watchlists that I haven’t seen before. There’ll be reviews and thoughts here and there because no doubt I will have nothing else to do. Without further ado, here’s my thoughts on Cats (1998)! Cats is something that I’ve always thought was pure crazy. I can’t say I’m the biggest fan of any of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s work but this musical always stood out to me as just being weird and bad. It may not be as bad as I always thought but it’s definitely odd. One thing I have to say is if I saw this before seeing Cats (2019) then I would’ve been really confused because I don’t think there’s a lot of plot explaining in this one but in the new version there’s dialogue which conveys the plot better than the songs do in this case. I wasn’...

Film Review: Spider-Man Far From Home

Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019) Director: Jon Watts UK rating: 12A Length: 129 minutes Cast: Tom Holland, Zendaya, Jake Gyllenhaal If you know anything about me, you’ll know that I am a massive Marvel fan. I would happily sit for hours watching the films or tv shows, they’re that good! With that in mind, I may be biased. However, in my opinion, Spider-Man: Far From Home is the film to beat this year.  I was able to go see the first showing of Spider-Man: Far From Home in Odeon at midnight which is always a fun thing to do as you’re usually surrounded by other mega fans of the franchise. The screen we were in was actually quite empty and basically silent throughout the film which was kind of sad but I think I reacted enough for everyone in there to be honest! There’s so much to talk about with this film that I honestly don’t know where to start. Please be aware that there will be spoilers in this post! Don’t read unless you’ve seen the film! I have to begin wi...

Film Review: Captain Marvel

Captain Marvel (2019) Directors: Anna Boden & Ryan Fleck UK rating: 12A Length: 123 minutes Cast: Brie Larson, Samuel L. Jackson, Ben Mendelsohn I was lucky enough to see the first showing of Captain Marvel in my local cinema at midnight. I have to say thank you to Amelia for taking me, her boyfriend and her sister with her. The film is set in 1995 and is about Carol Danvers (also known as Vers to her Kree teammates, known as the Starforce). Vers lives on Hala and when the film starts she is in the middle of a battle with her people (the Kree) and the Skrulls. Vers has recurring memories of another life she lived as Carol Danvers, a US Air Force Pilot. With the help of Nick Fury and Maria and Monica Rambeau, Carol starts to remember her past. Captain Marvel tries to uncover the secrets of her past all while using her superpowers to end the war between the Kree and the Skrulls. If you don’t want to read any spoilers I would click away now! Definitely see the film befo...

Film Review: Five Feet Apart

Five Feet Apart (2019) Director: Justin Baldoni UK Rating: 12A Length: 116 minutes Cast: Haley Lu Richardson, Cole Sprouse, Moises Arias Five Feet Apart is a film that I've waited all my life for. The plot revolves around two teenagers with Cystic Fibrosis, Stella Grant and Will Newman (played by Haley Lu Richardson and Cole Sprouse), who start off as people who can't really stand eachother however end up falling in love by the end of he film. The majority of the film is set in their hospital, on what seems to be a CF ward. Stella is in for routine IVs, whereas Will is in for a trial of a treatment for B. Cepacia (a bacterial infection in the lungs). The two are told to stay over six feet apart from eachother at all times. The two become friends and start breaking the rule, choosing to stay only five feet apart. They do this against all advice from their nurse Barb (Kimberly Hebert Gregory), and with the help of Poe (Moises Arias), another CFer. If you know me then ...

Film Review: Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse

Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse (2018) Directors: Bob Persichetti, Peter Ramsey & Rodney Rothman UK Rating: PG Length: 117 minutes Cast: Shameik Moore, Jake Johnson, Hailee Steinfeld Today I saw Spider-Man and I'll be honest, I wasn't expecting to come out of the cinema as happy as I did. To put it simply, I loved the film! I have been privileged enough to see many great films this year (my top ones would be Black Panther, A Star Is Born, Crazy Rich Asians, Bohemian Rhapsody and Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again (that may just be because I'm a sucker for both ABBA and movie musicals...)) but honestly this is one of my favourites! The main reason I wanted to see this film was because it's Spider-Man. The character has been one of my favourites for a while now, however I only know the Spider-Man that is Peter Parker. I think many people could say the same, but Peter Parkers Spidey is iconic so that does make sense. Seeing all the different Spider-People (and pig?...
